Volunteer with Wirral Community First Responders
Our team is made up of dedicated volunteers who give their time to help save lives across the Wirral. Community First Responders (CFRs) are trained by the North West Ambulance Service to attend life-threatening emergencies in their local area, often arriving before an ambulance. By providing early care—such as CPR and defibrillation—CFRs play a vital role in giving patients the best possible chance of survival.
Volunteering with us isn’t just about frontline response. We also welcome people who want to support the group in other ways, from fundraising and community engagement to admin and logistics. Every role makes a difference and helps keep our team active and ready to respond.
Whether you’re interested in becoming a responder or helping behind the scenes, joining Wirral Community First Responders is a rewarding way to give back to your community.
Community First Responders
In many medical emergencies the first few minutes are critical and if effective treatment can be provided at this time, lives can be saved.
Our CFRs are trained in basic life support (BLS) skills including cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR), defibrillation and oxygen therapy and are equipped with an automated external defibrillator (AED) oxygen and a first aid kit.
When a 999 call is received in our Integrated Contact Centre (ICC), an ambulance response is dispatched. At the same time a CFR, on-call in the area, can be alerted and asked to assist at the incident to ensure assistance reaches the patient as quickly as possible.
