Restart a Heart Week: Saving Lives, One Beat at a Time

Last week was an inspiring and action-packed one for the Wirral Community First Responders as we joined communities across the UK in marking Restart a Heart Day 2025 — an annual initiative dedicated to raising awareness about the importance of CPR and access to defibrillators.

Our volunteers were out and about across the Wirral, running CPR and AED demonstration sessions to help local residents gain confidence in using life-saving skills. These sessions are all about empowering ordinary people to take extraordinary action — because in a cardiac emergency, early CPR and defibrillation can double or even triple the chances of survival.

Community Training Events

We held a number of community sessions, including one at Cherry Tree Shopping Centre, where shoppers stopped by to learn how to perform CPR and use an AED. Our team demonstrated chest compressions and defibrillator use on training manikins, showing just how simple but crucial these steps are.

We also hosted interactive sessions in local churches and community centres, with fantastic turnout and enthusiasm from attendees. Participants got hands-on experience, asked questions, and left feeling more confident about stepping in during an emergency. The support and curiosity from local residents were truly heartwarming — proof of how much our community cares about keeping each other safe.

A Special Donation from North Wirral Round Table

A highlight of the week was receiving a brand-new defibrillator and cabinet, kindly donated by the North Wirral Round Table. This life-saving equipment will be installed in a public location, making it accessible for anyone to use in an emergency.

We are incredibly grateful for this generous donation — every additional defibrillator in our community strengthens the chain of survival and could one day save a life.

Working Together to Make a Difference

We also had the honour of meeting with local dignitaries and community leaders who joined us in our mission to spread awareness about cardiac arrest response. It was fantastic to see everyone come together to champion this cause and support our ongoing work across Wirral.

The enthusiasm, engagement, and generosity we witnessed throughout the week have been overwhelming. From the volunteers giving their time to the residents eager to learn CPR, to the donors helping us fund more community-access defibrillators — every effort helps make Wirral a safer place to live.
